If you have ever been scared of boarding an airplane, you're not the only one. The fear of flying, known as Aerophobia, is one of the most common phobias that people experience. This phobia can be a crippling, overwhelming feeling. It can even prevent you from using air transportation; traveling significant distances, or visiting the ones you love. Beating such a fear used to take long years of treatment, but now there are hypnotherapy and NLP techniques to work on phobias for faster, life-changing results.
Do you wonder what defines a phobia? All phobias are categorized as a type of anxiety disorder, and many people who suffer from them may suffer from panic attacks and other unpleasant feelings such as shakiness, nausea, or a pounding heart. Several sufferers report feeling unwell or losing their ability to control themselves, and organize their daily life around their phobia to try to avoid their fears.
For those with Aerophobia, even the simple thought of boarding an airplane might cause an anxiety attack. Other sufferers may feel only slightly uneasy while the plane is grounded, but panic once the plane takes off.
Imagine a case in which a lady with Aerophobia is sitting on an airplane before takeoff. She starts to feel anxious and her heart begins to race. She knows it is safe to fly, but she is scared nonetheless. When the plane is off the ground, she is powerless to do anything but cry uncontrollably, and continues to cry throughout the flight until she is finally able to disembark from the plane. Although it may sound extreme, this type of behavior is shared by a surprisingly high amount of people.
All phobias are marked by extreme, irrational fear. People with Aerophobia are scared of flying although they know that flying is really a secure form of transportation. They may feel ashamed when they respond by sobbing, shaking, or having an anxiety attack, but feel unable to control themselves. For many, this fear of losing control is as daunting as the phobia itself.
In actuality, phobia sufferers can't control their response because their anxieties are rooted in the unconscious mind, which no amount of conscious effort or willpower can help. This is where hypnotherapy comes into play. Ericksonian hypnosis therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques operate at the unconscious level of thought to effectively eliminate phobias.
A well-designed hypnosis therapy program for eliminating a phobia has several successive steps. The initial step uses hypnosis therapy for relaxation, relieving anxiety and tension. Once a person is stress-free and relaxed, hypnosis therapy directs new thoughts in the unconscious to extinguish the fear. NLP itself treats fears by exclusively targeting the phobia-causing idea.
Unlike conventional hypnosis, which uses direct post-hypnotic suggestions, Ericksonian hypnosis uses indirect suggestions hidden in discussion to convince the unconscious to adopt a new, more logical train of thought. It is more effective than conventional hypnosis therapy because people tend to ignore direct post-hypnotic hints, but find it harder to resist indirect suggestions that are concealed in engaging metaphors and stories.
The specialized phrasing of post-hypnotic suggestions in conventional hypnosis means that most conventional hypnosis programs will only work against a single phobia. A notable feature of the Ericksonian hypnosis and NLP program is that it is not specific to a single phobia and can extinguish any phobia, in anyone. It will work for most people because the system is made up of multiple unique hypnosis techniques arranged for maximum effectiveness.
The most effective fear eliminating NLP technique that I have used is known as the Visual - Kinesthetic Disassociation. The nickname for the V/K is the "one session phobia cure," and with good reason!
The combined Ericksonian hypnosis and NLP program is ideal for a logical person who wishes to beat an irrational fear permanently. Users can go through the step-by-step process at their own personal pace, but are frequently amazed at the ease with which they complete the process and beat their phobia. The results people see with hypnosis often seem simply miraculous.
Hypnotherapy and NLP are phenomenal tools for many people suffering from phobias. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP have helped countless people overcome their phobias. The techniques are remarkable for helping people who are scared of flying to take pleasure in airplane travel and all of its advantages. For years, hypnosis has been used to benefit lives all over the world, and extinguishing phobias is just one of the ways in which it helps people.
