It's natural for everyone to experience fears, but suffering from a phobia is a more serious matter. A phobia is an illogical fear that one can't seem to control. Phobias are categorized as a kind of anxiety disorder, and often create nervousness and anxiety attacks in an individual. When a person has a phobia, they become so determined to avoid their fear that it affects their daily activities and their ability to function in life.
Among the most common phobias are acrophobia, the fear of heights, claustrophobia, a fear of enclosed spaces, and arachnophobia, the fear of spiders. Arachnophobia is the most common phobia. Although many people have a fear of spiders, those with arachnophobia experience an extreme amount of fear. Even a photo or realistic drawing of a spider can make some arachnophobes uneasy. Some people have anxiety attacks or get hysterical at the sight of a spider. They are often willing to do anything in order to get away from a spider; for example, people with serious arachnophobia might try to get out of a moving vehicle if they see a spider next to them.
Sufferers often feel humiliated by their uncontrollable reactions. Other people and even the sufferers themselves might find their behavior irrational. Their anxiety over spiders and their reaction to the creatures may cause other problems as well. Arachnophobia and other phobias often lead to a condition known as agoraphobia.
Agoraphobia may arise when an individual is afraid of being in any potentially stressful place or situation. For a person with arachnophobia, this can mean avoiding any place a spider might be living, new places, and even avoiding leaving the house or going outside altogether. This can seriously interfere with a person's regular. A person may be worried about having anxiety attacks or embarrassing him or herself by losing control. Many people find themselves constantly stressed over their worries.
People with phobias often struggle with the inability to control their fears. This is due to the fact that the root of the phobia exists at the unconscious level of the mind; so conscious willpower or effort won't work to control a serious phobia. A phobia is most effectively dealt with at the unconscious level, which is why Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques are the most effective phobia treatments.
There are many different hypnosis programs available for treating phobias. Most use conventional forms of hypnosis that depend on post-hypnotic suggestions with highly exact wording to work against fears. These days, post-hypnotic suggestions rarely work because people have a tendency to question everything. And since today's generation tends to do the exact opposite of what they are told, they resist post-hypnotic suggestions and experience a polar response.
Ericksonian hypnotherapy is different from traditional hypnosis because it uses indirect suggestions that are embedded in conversation. This makes them difficult for the mind to pick out and reject, so they will make it through to the unconscious level and be adopted.
The process starts by using hypnotherapy to make you feel completely calm and relaxed. Then, instead of merely "telling" your unconscious what to do, Ericksonian techniques use metaphors and stories to lead your mind into a fear-free line of thinking.
NLP treatments work by focusing on the particular thought process that causes an irrational phobia and using it to eliminate the fear. Because of this, NLP will work on any phobia.
People respond better to the combination of NLP and Ericksonian techniques than to traditional hypnosis because instead of getting direct commands, the unconscious mind is persuaded to follow a new, more logical line of reasoning. These hypnosis programs are especially effective for people who are logical, critical thinkers and people who are independent thinkers.
You do not need a different hypnosis program for each different phobia. One program that includes several sessions containing the perfect combination of Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP techniques can treat any phobia. Furthermore, a well-designed program will work for any user. The combination of unique techniques in several different sessions ensures success for anyone who uses them. By following each step of the program, people are often amazed at how quickly they triumph over their fears.
Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP focus on turning irrational fears and behaviors into calm, relaxed responses. For many individuals struggling with crippling fears such as
a phobia, this is a life-changing treatment. Hypnosis therapy is a powerful tool for beating anxieties and fears to live a fuller, happier life.
