The fear of cancer, carcinophobia, is among the most familiar phobias, and it's easy to see why. No one wants to develop cancer or see someone else develop it. Even though it is normal to want to avoid getting ill, people with carcinophobia have an irrational amount of fear that frequently rules their lives. Overcoming the fear of cancer used to take a long time, but with improved understanding of the condition and treatment techniques, this has changed. Proven hypnotherapy techniques can help sufferers reclaim their well-being and happiness.
It isn't hard to see what can lead to carcinophobia. This fear is linked to a fear of death, illness, and loss of control. In many cases, sufferers feel traumatized by a loved one's battle with the disease. Those who have lost a friend to cancer, or are at risk of developing the disease, live in fear of the moment when they develop the disease.
The anxiety created by cancer phobia can lead people to make illogical decisions. Many sufferers constantly visit doctors to make sure they are not ill, while others avoid doctor visits entirely, in fear of discovering that they have an illness. Cancer phobia sufferers will worry if they have the tiniest signs of poor health, such as a migraine, and wonder if it's cancer. People might do whatever it takes to avoid getting ill.
Those experiencing a fear of cancer often believe they have a lot to fear. Carcinophobia a chronic fear that can affect both men and women. An individual might worry, "Who will provide for the family if I die?" or agonize over other critical matters. The phobia of cancer may be unbearable for sufferers and their loved ones.
Many people can cope with their phobias by simply avoiding the cause of their worry. Arachnophobes can often cope by keeping clear of spiders, and people with claustrophobia are careful to avoid small, confined spaces such as crowded rooms. Carcinophobia, however, is a different story. Carcinophobia is largely triggered by an individual's innermost thoughts and worries. It can be crippling for a person to suffer from a fear they simply can't avoid. This keeps many people with carcinophobia in a chronic state of worry.
A number of phobia treatments are in use today. Frequently used ones include talk therapy and anti-anxiety medication. Traditional counseling can generate lasting results, but it may take a long time, up to several years for some patients. Prescription drugs work to relieve an individual's nervousness, but it does not treat the root causes of a phobia. Hypnosis is a choice that delivers lasting results in less time than other types of treatment. Hypnosis is a popular therapy because it's an effective, safe, and non-invasive type of treatment.
Hypnosis combines stress-relief practices with fear relief to rapidly cure a phobia. A well-designed program will begin with relaxation therapy to help alleviate the emotional stress caused by fear. When a person feels stress-free and relaxed, hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques will direct the unconscious mind into following a new, phobia-free line of thought.
Traditional hypnosis utilizes direct, post-hypnotic commands to cure a fear. It's very successful when a person is responsive to it. Unfortunately, these older techniques are often futile because many people are inclined to question post-hypnotic suggestions and unconsciously reject direct suggestions.
A severe phobia such as carcinophobia calls for a more advanced form of treatment such as Ericksonian hypnosis. This form of hypnosis works best for people who are logical, and who are experiencing chronic fear and anxiety. It utilizes indirect suggestions hidden in conversations, stories, and metaphors to help them overcome their phobias.
The innovative NLP technology doesn't rely upon suggestion at all, so it can be effective for everybody. A simplified explanation is that NLP offers techniques to train the unconscious mind to use the same exact thought processes that are causing a symptom or fear, to extinguish it.
Since both hypnosis and NLP function at the unconscious level of the mind, clients describe feeling much more in control and comfortable through these techniques.
With Traditional Hypnotherapy, programs generally must be phobia specific. One advantage of a well designed Ericksonian hypnosis therapy and NLP program is that both are suitable for use on any phobia, or even several phobias. This is a great asset to some carcinophobia sufferers who also have other panic disorders, such as general hypochondria or germophobia.
The fear of cancer is a serious condition, but one that can be cured by suitable hypnosis techniques. NLP techniques have become a leading fear remedy because of their effectiveness at addressing the root of all fears along with the symptoms. Sophisticated Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP techniques can help even the most anxious phobia patients overcome their phobias permanently.
