Many people feel some discomfort or experience minor anxieties when pushed into a new situation or a group of unfamiliar people. However, for about ten percent of the population, social anxiety is severe enough to be disabling. Scientists now think that a much larger number of people probably suffer from more mild forms of social anxiety that can lead to significant issues in everyday interactions.
The technical term for this kind of anxiety is 'social phobia'. It usually occurs when a person experiences fears and worries that usually are due to being in a social situation. Anyone who struggles with a social phobia may also struggle to deal with stopping themselves from thinking too much about how others are judging or evaluating them.
For people with social phobia, anxious feelings can occur in all sorts of different types of situations, such as going shopping, attending a party, speaking in public, standing in front of a group of people, or being interviewed. These
social anxieties can also make themselves visible physically; for many people with
social anxieties, sweating, blushing, trembling, or stomach issues can occur when facing these types of stressful situations.
Scientists now think that social phobia consists of issues with self-confidence. Self confidence is our ability to believe that we are capable of making the right decisions, be independent, and have power over our lives. People who have trouble with self-confidence -- a very common issue in today's modern world -- may worry too much about how they are perceived, which may eventually lead to not wanting to take part in social events or of beginning to feel "out of control".
Fortunately, there are some basic actions someone with self-confidence issues can take in order to take back this sense of control. One possible course of action a person with self-confidence issues can take is to make use of an anxiety and phobia workbook. You can consider the anxiety and phobia workbook as simply a way to get insight into the issues you are experiencing by maintaining a record of triggers and symptoms; the anxiety and phobia workbook also contains exercises to do that will aid you to gain better introspection about your self-confidence issues.
When you have gotten to the point at which you have started to have insight about your issues with self-confidence, and have made the decision that now is the time to begin developing self-confidence, then it might be time to look into a kind of therapy that has been proven to be immensely successful in social phobia. As with the anxiety and phobia workbook, this special kind of therapy is characterized by having a focus on assisting you to become pro-active and gain power over your life. In sum, you will be curing your own problems.
This type of treatment, called hypnosis, functions by taking control of the hidden power of your subconscious mind to aid you to become more confident, assured, relaxed, and comfortable with yourself. Believe it or not, we all come into this world with these abilities, but because of traumatic life events, learned helplessness, and problematic social interactions, it is often the case that we lose track of our abilities to seize these powers. Hypnosis therapy has been clinically proven to be useful for people who have self-confidence and anxiety issues.
Many people with self-confidence and other anxiety related issues often look for a quick fix solution, such as medicines, natural remedies, and short courses of therapy. While these are things that can assist some people, they don't actually address the root of our self-confidence issues - our subconscious mind. In order to deal with self-confidence issues, you must be in charge of your own treatment.
If you do decide to check out hypnotherapy to aid you to build self-confidence, you will begin a series of treatments with a hypnotherapist who will help you to enter a deep state of relaxation. When you are in this state of relaxation, your subconscious mind is wide open and available to be reached by suggestive techniques. Your hypnotherapist will then work with you while in this open mental state by using repeated suggestion to encourage you to realize that you are an able, strong, and independent person.
Some other possibilities for people who struggle with self-confidence are to receive hypnosis therapy through videos or audio CDs, which can be viewed or listened to in the comfortable space of your own home. Many people also discover that learning self hypnosis, a special relaxation technique in which you can open up to your innermost desires and needs, with just minimal assistance, is very helpful. Whatever type of anxiety hypnosis you choose, you will be assured that you are taking a critical step in enacting your own treatment and recovery.
