Treating Brontophobia, The Fear Of

Thunderstorms With Hypnosis And NLP

brontophobia phobia cureBrontophobia is a common condition that millions folks around the world struggle with; the fear of thunder and lightning. For as long as this condition has existed, we have been seeking out methods to beat it. Presently there is a variety of treatment options used. To help vanquish this phobia, professionals recommend specific hypnosis techniques that are proven effective in alleviating common fears.

Those suffering from brontophobia possess an overblown fear of thunder and lightning. Loud, booming thunder and intense flashes of lightning can spark nervousness and panic attacks in people with brontophobia. Other signs include an increased heartrate, perspiring, and a strong feeling of fear, which increases until a person feels ill.

The fear of thunder and lightning develops early for many, when as kids, we cower under blankets during a big storm. The phobia can be particularly overwhelming for young children. Many terrified children feel helpless during a storm, and their mothers and fathers may also feel powerless to relieve their anxieties.

Even in spite of its frequency in young kids, brontophobia can develop at any time, frequently after someone has an unpleasant experience such as getting an electric shock, which reminds them of a flash of lightning. A traumatic experience such as surviving a natural disaster may also create a fear of thunderstorms.

Many people may come to associate loud noises, the sensation of pain, or terror with thunder and lightning, which may lead to a phobia. This fear is so common that it is even observed in many animals; for example, many pet owners notice that their pet dogs seem upset during thundering.

Brontophobia sufferers try to avoid seeing or hearing storms. They may experience nervousness during disasters such as floods. This can put them in harm's way if they are unable to function under circumstances which calls for them to remain calm and react quickly.

Brontophobia sufferers typically dread storm season, often suffering during times of the year when storms occur frequently. They might obsessively check weather reports and act extra cautious during periods of bad weather. To others, these actions may seem obsessive and paranoid. People with brontophobia may find this condition gradually taking control of their lives.

A wide range of options are available for treating brontophobia and other fears. Popular ones include counseling, anti-anxiety medication, and hypnosis. Hypnosis tends to offer safer, faster results and it is non-invasive, having no harmful side effects. For these reasons and others, hypnosis is now a a common treatment.

Hypnosis therapy is successful as a type of stress-relief therapy and has traditionally been used for its healing properties. By beginning with stress-relief techniques, hypnosis helps tense, agitated phobia sufferers initiate the process of healing. When an individual is feeling at ease, it is easier for hypnosis techniques to direct the unconscious into a fear-free thought process.

The vast majority of phobias are linked to negative images or triggers, which become associated with fear inside the unconscious mind. For people with brontophobia, the sound of thunder, the sight of lightning, or even the smell of rain often provokes a deep fear. Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) work at the unconscious level of the mind to disconnect the feeling of fear from these triggers to deliver significant fear relief. One of the most effective techniques is called the NLP Visual/Kinesthetic Disassociation.

Ericksonian hypnosis is a type of hypnosis that is often used to treat fear-related stress. Named for its developer, Dr. Milton Erickson, MD, this type of approach uses indirect suggestions embedded in conversation, stories, and metaphors to eliminate a phobia. Indirect suggestions are more effective than traditional post-hypnotic direct suggestions because we tend to reject being told what to do. Suggestions which are concealed from conscious thought are much better able to help people to overcome their phobias.

NLP techniques and Ericksonian hypnosis have an additional advantage over traditional hypnosis programs because they are formulated to treat any phobia. So one program is usable for curing any phobia, or even multiple phobias if needed. Additionally, each program uses many different techniques to work for everybody.

For many people, hypnotic therapy is the best choice of treatment, which delivers quick and permanent results. Shivering in bed and being scared is not how a brontophobia sufferer should live. Using hypnosis and NLP techniques, nearly everyone can vanquish this serious fear.
